Recipe Of The Week: Chocolate Goat Chilli

Luxury Chocolate Goat Chilli Con Carne

500g Goat Mince
1 Large Onion
400g Chopped Tinned Tomatoes
400g Red Kidney beans, drained
2 stock cubes (beef or vegetarian)
100g Rich Dark Chocolate
2 rashers dry cured bacon
1 handful of small mushrooms, sliced
3 tsp Chilli powder (choose strength to your taste)
1 tsp Mixed Herbs
350ml water


  • Prepare your onion, mushrooms, bacon, chocolate and kidney beans in advance; finely chop the onion, slice the mushrooms, cut the bacon into small pieces, grate the chocolate and drain the kidney beans.
  • Pre heat a large pan for 2-3 minutes on a medium to high heat with a small drop of oil - this is necessary as the goat mince is so lean. Place the goat meat in first breaking it up with a wooden spoon allowing it to brown slightly for 2 minutes
  • Add in the chopped onion and bacon
  • Leave the mince to cook until the onions are beginning to go translucent, toss in the mushrooms and prepare the stock
  • Once the 2 stock cubes have fully dissolved, pour in the stock, tomatoes and drained kidney beans. Turn the heat down and allow to simmer gently.
  • After approximately 15 minutes of simmering sprinkle in the chocolate, mixed herbs and chilli powder
  • Allow to cook on a gentle heat for 1 hour as the stock reduced down for extra flavour
  • Season to your taste with further chilli powder and salt - although salt should not be necessary due to the bacon. Recommended to serve with rice and wraps
